BYF41/Capture Papers/Katana/Don/Frank

I have recently purchased this BYF 41 rig with capture papers and Japanese Katana.

The rig has two FXO mags, an e/655 tool and a DTA 41 brown holster. The serial number is 6263v with about 98% blueing. All parts match including the grips which have last two digits and e/655.

The vets name is Bernard J. Bouchard. He inked his rank (SSGT), name, ASN# and the pistols serial number (without suffix) on the holster. The capture paper does not have the serial number on it. The document has his rank and ASN#. He was attached to Co "D" of the 387th Infantry Regt. It lists 1 sumaria [SIC] sword. 1 german pistol. 1 knife.

The sword has a minty blade (razor sharp) and a fuller. Some of the wrap of the grip it broken around the pin. The scabbard is almost mint. No dings and 99+% paint. All of the pieces are marked with the number 63. The only marking on the tang is a flower.

I spoke with Mr. Bouchard, the Vet who brought back the items. I have asked him to sell me the knife that is listed on the document and also to write a statement listing how/when/where he acquired each item. He stated that he served in the ETO and PTO but picked up all the items in the ETO. He enlisted in Feb 43 and served until May 46. I will update the post when I get the info and knife.

I am very excited about my new rig, but I know I wouldn't own it if it wasn't for two very knowledgable members of this forum. Thanks to Don Hallock and Frank Manders for keeping me from making an expensive mistake. They taught me what to look for concerning what "matching " really means.
