Secret of the stock lug

I have often wondered about stock lugs. Pondered it endlessly....

Now I know, thanks to an on-line auction.

"This is a rare model of DWM Military 9mm Luger without a stock lug. IT WAS ISSUED TO A HIGH RANKING OFFICER WHO DID NOT NEED A SHOULDER STOCK"

It was so simple, I just couldn't see the forest for the trees...

Boy! Do I feel stupid...or what?

Ya'know... the old-timers on this forum.. like Frank and myself get a real chuckle out of the tongue and cheek you rookies like to print... but give the news guys a break and let them know that you are kidding or you will have a bunch of new collectors out there looking for those "high ranking officer" Lugers..

Next I suppose you'll be telling me that Navy Lugers were chrome plated to prevent the salt sea air from corroding the metal parts!!!!

You are all wrong about the chromed Navy Lugers...

It has been well documented by someone, somewhere, sometime on the Internet that the chrome-job was added to make finding a Navy Luger much easier in the low-light conditions aboard sub's and ships and at night under the moon-light...

I think the chrome plating was done so as to be able to attach them to the gigantic front bumper of a 1950's Buick in order to make them handy to access...and to camoflage it as well with all the gleaming swirls and corners on the auto's "grin." Every returning GI had a car like that.

That's exactly what I'm saying!

The chrome plating worked so well, U-boat captains were known to chrome plate their faces:

As you can see, the plating was much more effective on the lugers. The U-boat captains went from "just plain grumpy" to "shiny and grumpy"

but it looks like Chromed lugers are way under valued, start stocking up on those factory chromed WWII pistols folks.
