grip safety

Okay, I know this is stupid, but I've never claimed to know much at all about Lugers, so here goes.

I'm still recovering from some minor surgery and my knee is still bunged up and sore, so I can't get down (or up!) from the floor of my work area to check real well for the spring. So, I'm wondering if it'd matter if I just left the grip safety non functional. I don't like them much anyway.

It's a shooter parts gun and no collector value is lost.
