Default Re: I need help to ID my gun

Hi Terry,

Just to add to what Tom wrote, your Luger was originally a 1917 DWM. You need to look and see if it has the cut on the front of the chamber for an Artillery barrel. Your barrel has been replaced by Simson. These were done for both the Weimar Army and the Weimar police. You need to see if you gun has the police sear safety or a magazine safety. If so, it is a police Luger. Also, what is the base of your magazine and does it have a "1", "2", or "3" on the base along with the serial number? Police magazines usually have the 1, 2, or 3 number on them. Your Luger is referred to as a "Double Date. Thousands of Lugers were reworked and reissued during the 20's with most going to the Weimar Police. These reworks in the last few years have found more interest and are becoming more collectable. The extent of the reworking varies, with some having property markings on the front or rear grip straps.
