Yup, just had my Luger out at the match today in fact. Shot it against a 45-70 (who was using sticks) on the 200 yd range - the 45-70 won, but there were some anxious moments when I got a crazy streak of three fluke hits in a row on the buffalo. Got 'em sweating for a minute there.

My wife, not me, but she loves it and the CB work is about 40% of my gun smith business...

I tried it for a while. Lots of nice people, but it just wasn't for me. Too much ammunition waste, and on targets close enough to get frequently (and I do mean FREQUENTLY) hit with lead splash.
If I'm so close to a target I can't possibly miss, it's no fun.

Every once in awhile a new shooter will complain about targets that are too close, and so they "can't miss". I always ask if they shot clean, and they always say "Well, no" Then I ask if they placed first in their class, they always say "Well, no." I say, "Well, then I guess it wasn't so easy after all..." It is called Cowboy *Action* Shooting for a reason. Speed is part of the sport, and is as difficult to master as accuracy.
Properly constucted targets will not normally generate feedback. But all targets do at some point, so we do absolutely require eye protection. Bullet composition and velocity rules are part of the plan, but we have occasional people who load too hot or use very hard bullets. Shotgun targets do produce feedback more often than the plates. And I think that someone once said that no round fired at a target is wasted. Just my opinion, you understand. Now the dress-up thing is either for you, or not. I feel a little silly, but just a little. No more so than dressing up in leather to ride a motorcycle, I think, I mean just consider your average Harley rider. Turns out that many CAS shooters do in fact own Harleys. It's surely not everyone's cup of chowder, but that's why we have more than one shooting sport. H |

I've always wanted to give it a try but just haven't found the time, I guess. If I had someone to do it with it would be more fun...

Dave, I do plan on getting married. Just as soon as ice forms over the Bay of Hades...

I'm one. Been shooting Cowboy Action since "99". While not an expert, I know a lot more about "Cowboy" guns then Lugers.
Do like the Lugers though. The workmanship on them is unbelieveable! Lock and Load! ![]() ![]() |
