Default Well I personally think...

it's every bit a part of history as the original gun. True, it may not be a collectible, but so many pistols were nickel plated just as a "matter of corse" on entering the US, and this stands as a "shining" example of this practice. While collectors will obviously cringe, we can't ignore that this practice took place at a time when no one realized that these weapons would become so highly sought after. It's a great piece, thank you for sharing it.

Deaf & Doc,

I agree that the Luger still has all the history behind it and is just as collectible as any Luger. It may not have the value of an original, but this practice was common for the returning soldier. At the time, the pistols did not have the value they do today and I don't think anyone ever thought they would be as popular as a collectors item.

As I have always said, all Lugers except the total parts pistols DO have a history behind them and should be treated as such.

Actually, guys, I was surprized by my reaction. I was prepared to really dislike the gun, but when I saw the picture, it looks really sharp! I'm not about to go out and have my guns plated, but I thought it was good looking!
