Did anyone else read this the same way I did (at first) ? :-o :-)

Years ago at the gun range, I shoot at some of the young kids that work there, screwed up.

Well, you know, not everyone of us has perfect grammar, so I tend to excuse mistakes like tenses anyway. I just thought this was a bit funny, mostly my mis-reading of the sentence.
