Band of Brothers gun

Kids got me the DVD set of HBO's Band of Brothers for Christmas and just now getting time to watch them all. Heck of a series and really appreciated the interviews with the surviving vets.

On the 'extras' DVD they did an hour synopsis with lots of interviews. Toward the end of it Dick Winters showed a German pistol and holster he had received from a surrendering German major at the end of the war. In the movie scene the officer was turning in a luger, but the gun Winters showed during the interview was definitely a smaller gun. He mentiones that the gun was never fired and that he's never fired it either.

So couple of questions for the forum.

Does anyone know what the make/model of that pistol is?

And would anyone care to take a stab at what a such a gun, would be worth?

Haven't had time to check the forum lately....darn day job, but always appreciate the responses from folks, esp the 'regulars'.

Band of Brothers is very excellent, a few things "wrong" with it, but overall very good.

I think they called it a Walther PP in the book, but don't remember. I would guess he actually received Many surrendered guns, but he says in the book, "this was the only one I kept..."

Get Biggest Brother, an autobiograpy of Major Winters, it is an excellent read (as is Band of Brothers).

I would guess it "might" double the value, all depends on who wanted it...

I believe that you are correct. It was a Walther PP. Value wise, it would be hard to gauge. I don't think that it will ever be sold. It means too much to the Winters. So many sacrificed so much during the war. They insured our freedom. How could we ever repay them?

I'll have to check out Winter's book.

It was obvious from the interview that the fact the pistol had not been fired; used to kill was very meaningful to him. Not surprised that would be the one weapon he'd take home with him.

Heres a PPK I aquirred a few years back. Came from the widow that was placed in a nursing home. Her late husband put his name and rank on the holster. (He passed away at age 30)

I guess there was no family to hand it down to. So now it's part of my family! And I do apprecate it for what it is.
I would have to say this one was never fired after it left the factory?

I think the pistol that Winters showed the interviewer in the Extras part of the B of B DVD set was a Mauser HsC and not a Walther.
It also drew my attention as it was in pristine condition.

I just finished "Beyond Band of Brothers" by D.Winters, his war memiors, another good read. It includes some of the details collected for BoB but was not included.
