After considering a restoration service, like LugerMan, etc. which states a turnaround of three months or more, and where the work is done by one individual, I have just about categorically decided it is too much risk.
At the custom shop of Smith and Wesson, if one person quits, or gets sick, or expires, someone else will take care of your gun, and you know the work has been kept together, documented, etc.
But, God forbid, if someone idividual, however talented, who has your gun disassembled, half blued, and other guns in various stages of work, gets into an accident, or is indisposed for an indefinite amount of time, or has a disruption of their home, etc. ---- well, then you might never see your gun again, or never see it all in one piece again. Those who come along and try to take care of the loose ends afterwards, might be well-intentioned in trying to get the guns back to their owners, but unable to know what was what or whose.
The restoration work might actually take a week, work and waiting between processes, but you know a waiting turnaround time of months means your gun is sitting in queue, or is disassembled and partially done and inactive, for most of that time.
There is no reason I can think of that would prevent such work from being scheduled, and the time slot reserved, at least so that the gun is only there maybe a week before work actually begins. Otherwise, forget it. Life's too short.
