Unfortunately, they don't need to be reminded. They know full well what they're doing.
Not so very long ago, if a politician annouced he believed the Constitution to be outdated and no longer relevant, it would have meant the end of his career. Now they say it frequently and with impunity.

All governments eventually deteriorate to a state of totalitarianism (quoting myself). Unfortunately our "leaders" have discovered that to get what they want, all they have to do is re-interpret the meaning and spirit of the Constitution. The result is an accelerated rate of deterioration.

Imagine what would have happened to our "leaders" just a few decades ago if they tried to pass a law allowing them to open anyone's mail, any time they want to, just to see if it contained something "suspicious". Now they've passed the law and are opening our mail, and the story doesn't even make the front page. Uncle Adolph would be proud.

My response to the excuse that they're "protecting" us is; DON'T PROTECT ME! I'll protect myself thank you very much. I'd rather be blown up than surrender my liberty.
