Default Dealers You Buy From

Poll : To help newcomers to Luger collecting, a Poll might be useful to let them know which dealers our Members would consider buying from.

So far I have only bought a Luger and parts from Aaron(from this forum) and Lugerdoc(Tom Heller) I have been more than pleased with both.

I am starting to get the itch for another Luger so this is a timely thread for me.

I actually have only bought from one dealer (twice) and had satisfactory dealings with Ralph. All my other dealings have been from private individuals; and this was mainly from collector friends.

I have three Lugers, all purchased from members of this forum, Hugh, Tom A, and Steve(luscioman). I am 3 for 3, all good experiences and would gladly deal with them again in the future.

Hugh is the only one here that I have purchased a Luger from.
I hear those armadillos do good work.

I've bought from Randy bessler, Simpson's, Bob Adams, Charlie Justmann and FGS , as well as several members. All were good to excellent transactions. Never , never buy from a guy who goes by "One Big Gun" Frank Rushin on GB or AA. The guy walks sideways so he get through a door. I did my best to get him banned from the auctions. He ranks up there with Babcock.

Default Luger Dealers

I have bought from Randy Bessler, Bob Simpson, Joe Salter, and David Buehn. All guns were as discribed and service was fast.

My Luck with Adams, Bessler and Simpson wasn't very good. These folks are in the business of selling and have either withheld negative information or outright lied about Lugers I bought from them. I did get refunds from each, BUT it cost me shipping charges both ways. I talked to each by phone before I ordered the pistol!! I wouldn't do business with any of them, unless it is Simpson's and then only when I can talk to Brad Simpson. He has been honest and above board with me.

I've never bought a Luger before. Are they any good for removing hex bolts?

For many years and many, many transactions, Simpsons has been reliable. They describe honestly and stand behind their guns, Peter dunster is likewise a VERY reliable dealer.

They will remove about anything! They are also good for drilling holes!

There are all sorts of dealers out there. There are good ones that I like but have made mistakes and there are bad ones out there who might actually have a good gun. There are some that I personally wouldn't touch with a ten foot poll no matter what they are selling. You really have to read the books, this forum and Jan Stills forum. After a while you will start to get the feel for what luger is good and which one is bad. Even then, there really is no substitute for getting the Luger in your own sweaty hands. The internet has made pricing difficult and has made every small time seller think that his gun is a rare and perfect Luger and for him to price his gun outa sight.

Then there are the counterfeiters. Look at the above Kreighoff discussion of a 1941 HK. Somebody possibly messed up a perfectly good and expensive HK to get a few bucks more on an altered gun. The counterfeiting looks very good. In most cases, the counterfeiting is pretty bad to the experienced eye. On this HK, this forum saved this guy a lot of money. I sometimes wonder if Gibson may have deliberately pictured the two HK's to innocently warn people about the altered HK.

I've been pleased with Randy Bessler and Simpsons. I like Simpsons and the other day I have to say they did a good job with me. I asked about a really nice P.38 rig they had. They could have told me that there were no import marks, but were straight up honest about it and didn't seem to mind when I told them I couldn't use the gun if it had the import marks on it. I'd buy from them again (as I've done with three guns in the past). Bessler also has super nice inventory and seems honest about any defects or anything you ask about.

I've bought only one Luger (not counting the one I bought and sold 30 years ago).
I bought it on this forum from Hugh, and later a set of magnificent grips.
Do I recommend him?
Let's put it this way... any time he comes to my city, I'm buying dinner!
There are a number of other good guys here too. Just read a bunch of posts and you'll know.
I would not buy a Luger except from someone on this forum, or with the advice of someone here. It just makes the process so much simpler and safer.

Peter Dunster, who is on this forum as "Lugercollector" I believe? Pistol was better than described and I am proud to own it!
