Thanks Graham and I should be done with it by spring.
Mny reasons why mags don't match, one could be that to US GI's, the 1911A1 wasn't matched that way, so it was just a magazine to them... Also have heard more than once and seen in pictures, german soldier walked up to a pile, dropped pistol in one place, mag in another pile, holsters in another... And as you said, in battle or war time environment, if a mag went bad, then it was just replaced... Ed
