They are multi-shot, and they are loaded from the top. The bottom of the magazine well is plugged and the entire grip becomes the magazine to accommodate the increased length and width of the .45 round. A special follower and spring completes the modification. There is a slot in the right grip that permits the insertion of a rod to pull down the follower during loading...pretty much like using a tool to load a regular magazine.
