Default Type of wood used in stocks?

What type of wood or woods was used to construct artillery and naval stocks? Where would I find this information? I tried "Imperial Lugers" and couldn't find it. Thanks. Jim

Hi,

Most likely walnut (or 'Nussbaum'), like the grip and stock material.
