My hobby is shooting the long barreld Lugers. In a regular 8" Artillery one can shoot 300 yards with great accuracy. Due to the limitations of the 9MM pistol round the effective range would be a bit better with a 16" barrel but I suspect not that much better. German tests determined that the 9mm would go to 800 meters and still penetrate a helmet. Actually expecting to HIT a helmet at that range is another thing. The hold over would be tremendous.
