No, sorry not a real clear answer....it takes the plum color not from being used, but from the moment it is dipped in hot salt bluing solution, being a spring steel, it is different from the steel the rest of the gun is made out of, and thus blues a different color, the plum color....now in some spring steels and with some bluing solations and at higher bluing temps, darker plum can/will occure....but for all protection from rust/elements and so, the plum color will work....OK?...the same will happen if you try to blue a color case hardened piece of steel....let me know if this helps
