Default Stock lugs

I could have put this in several areas, but I guess here is best.

The only "Navy" I own is a Mauser commerative. Recently I bought a repro navy stock for it and when I received it found out it doesn't fit the lug.

Measuring a lug on a 1915 DWM I got .294" and and even .300" on the Mauser.

My question is: Are the Mausers different, or did the original navies have a different lug?

Hi Rod,

Is the male stock lug on the gun wider? Are there any burrs or sharp edges on the lug that may be a problem?

Try the stock on a few other pistols and see which is in error.
You mayalso have to file the lock pin on your stock to fit & lock on your pistol.

The stock I have fits and locks on one and almost locks on the other.
Try to fit the stock iron rather than the pistol.
One is a Mauser 1940 the other is a 1917 DWM

I have a spare CMR iron that you can try. I bought it from Tom Heller.
I can measure my two pistol if you want some numbers.

Best of luck,

The stock will not begin to fit the stock lug on the Mauser. Apparently the .006" extra width is too much.

Please give me the measurements on your pistols to compare. And thanks.

Hello Rod,
Generally speaking, the Mauser Parabellums are completely different from the WWI and WWII German production, the stock lug as well.
The three Mauser Parabellum with stock lug are the Carbine, the Navy and the LP08. Now the stock lug is different and the "normal" stock doesn't fit without some works.
The only ones working correctly are the models made by Mauser and also the models made by Odin/Mauser around 1980 fit quite good and are Mauser signed. Therefore I suggest to find out one of this Mauser/Odin model for your Navy.
For my LP08 commemorative I have the original stock with two attaching iron, one blued and the other one engraved. In addition some years ago I have asked Mr. Werle to make a stock especially for my commemorative.
When I received the stock, it did not fit well and it was necessary send back the attaching iron to Mr. Werle for some additional re-works.

Note that in general the Mauser Parabellum parts donĂ¢??t match with the standard German production. It is possible to exchange some items only with the Swiss 06/29 model. Also the grips are different and it is not possible to fit them with the normal German production and vice versa.

I hope this helps.
Have fun with you Navy commemorative.
Ciao
Mauro

Hi Rod,

My 1917 measures.284 to .287 at the top of the lug.
1940 .289 to .290

I would have to think about what to do here.

You can buy some riffler (bent) Swiss files to make the track wider or you can just skim some material off the lug and reblue it.

I have had very good luck with Blue Wonder bluing product. It stays on better than cold blue.

I was able to match the bluing on a S&W model 10 and a Russian Nagant pistol & two SKSs.

Or look for someone to trade for an Odin stock.

I really don't remember any deep gouges in the stock. Can you steam them out?

I'm about to strip a nice repro.artillery stock as the wood is much darker than all the orignals I have seen.

Be well,
broom

Mauro, I expected that the stock lugs of the Mausers were going to be different...but I had hopes. This is only the second navy stock I've seen for sale (both repros). I assume these things come up for sale at times, but not in my neck of the mesquites it seems. Thanks for the help.

Broom, I appreciate the measurements. I'm pretty much certain I wouldn't take any metal off the pistol. I might work on the stock iron if I can't work anything else out. It'd be a piece of cake if the area weren't curved.

I think the gouges are too deep by a long shot for steaming to work.
