I know some of youse guyz have chrome or nickel Lugers, 45's, and even SSA Colts...Here's a site with real elephant ivory grips (and engraving, inletting, etc)...
http://nutmegsports.com/ I noticed that several members of the ColtForum.com had their Colt autos done with ivory grips...I gotta admit, they look nice. ![]() ![]()

Nutmeg Sports have a very good reputation for business and product. Their Ivory is legal, and beautiful on a deep blued 1911, or Browning Hi Power.

I was at the OGCA show this weekend and saw a really beautiful pair of ivory grips on a very old Luger. For some reason; for me anyway, ivory grips and Lugers are just a turn-off. Don't get me wrong, I am not critisizing, if you like ivory grips on your copy of Georg Luger's greatest; go for it!...........................

I have a set of artificial ivory on a Ruger .22 standard. I have gotten more compliments on it

I don't much care for carved or checkered ivory grips. The smooth ones are really, really nice to shoot with. Much better than wood.

Love the grips. Hate the chrome. Don't care for baby Lugers much.

I'm not sure the gun is plated. It looks like it might be finished in-the-white a la John Martz (I don't think it is one of his guns though

Uh-oh, I recognize the seller from a year or so ago. He'd posted pics that were sexy, cameo shots but showed practically nothing of the condition. Well, except perhaps a big pit on the side plate (if anyone remembers my post about it from back then...). His description said no rust or pitting, but when I asked for a better pic of that area, all I got was a hard time. I think it may have been Michael Zelaney who outed the guy as a "flipper"--found one of his ridiculously priced guns for sale that had been listed earlier by someone else, for a slightly less ridiculous price. I had not noticed any further offerings by "mdarksereph" for about a year, now there's this one.

The Lugers with ivory grips are quite striking but I am particularly taken with Hugh's Colt The before and after photos display just what can be done artisan-wise.
Hugh, did you have the revolver's finish restored before the engraving and may I ask who did the restoration and engraving? The ivory grips set off the piece perfectly Best Charlie |
