A.Misfin,

It may interest you to know that you are not our only member from Malta... I just can't seem to remember who the other one is...

[Edited by admin-JS] I just remembered who our other member from Malta is... # 782, his member name is Phoenix... His real name (revealed by himself in a message posting is Steve Petroni)... Perhaps you two are acquainted? He has an envious Member Gallery Album for a Navy Luger Rig that he owns...

Regarding strawing of stainless again...

I was on a website the other day that stated the strawing temperature for the stainless steels is around 700 F. About 200 degrees higher than that of regular steel.

This was not a gunsmithing site, but an automotive site talking about the discoloration of stainless exhaust headers.

That is cool. Friends have commented about the golden color of my stainless headers on my Suzuki Bandit, but I hadn't considered it "straw." They were in the white when I bought it new. I have been told that they will polish up nicely back to silver color, but will turn gold again quickly, so I haven't bothered.

I'd be glad to send you a couple of slabs. Short or long? Burnt ends? Having been in CA myself many times I know that what they call BBQ out there ,,,well, it just ain't. I'll over night it to you along with a bottle or two of sauce.
