Very interesting â??Frankenstein-holsterâ?! No tool pouch and no pull up strap â?? never had either one. Belt loops are as originally attached and have not been repositioned from a WWI holster. The lid has a hole under the strap showing evidence of having a stud or a snap attachment at one time, but it is way too close to the edge. The pink color of the thread might suggest Mercurochrome treatment, but it is not quite â??orangeâ? enough for what you usually see. Perhaps cotton thread colors differently than linen?
If the body had a more box like toe I would think it had a Bulgarian origin. But the shape is not right for Bulgarian and the leather is generally thicker and of a better quality than you usually encounter in Bulgarians. Perhaps it is a modification of a commercial holster? Really a unique piece and well worth the $10, regardless of what it is! P.S. The oval cartouche looks vaguely Bulgarian. Can you tell if the letters are Cyrillic?
