I have kept this card for many years. It was given to me by a close veteran. He carried it in his bilfold for many years. I thought everyone might like to read it. Let it remind us of those that gave service for our freedom and the ultimate sacrifice made by many!

ToggleTop

Of the 600 men in the United States 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion, my Dad was one of only 35 survivors of the Battle of the Bulge. There's was not the only unit totally decimated in this awesome, historical battle.

When the green troops ran, the Airborne held the line against the first wave of the German Winter offensive of 1944.

When I was a child, my Dad never really seemed to enjoy Christmas. We would often find him alone, in quite contemplation. Years later, when I casually asked him why it was he never seemed to enjoy Christmas, he told me that every single one of his friends was killed in the battle, but they did, indeed, succeed in stopping the German advance.

My Dad was Knighted by the King of Belgium,
