I have kept this card for many years. It was given to me by a close veteran. He carried it in his bilfold for many years. I thought everyone might like to read it. Let it remind us of those that gave service for our freedom and the ultimate sacrifice made by many!

What a wonderful piece of history! My dad was there and is 81 and in failing health. I would like permission to copy this for him.

Dear Chester, words cannot say what the feeling was when I read George S. Patton's Christmas greetings to his troops at that critical time in 1944. We should never forget. I humbly request that you repost this on Christmas Eve. I treasure the Costanzo book I purchased from you. God bless.

I believe this is this the prayer refered to in the movie "Patton". I seem to recall a scene with him and a Chaplan discussing a prayer for the troops and the issue with the weather.

There's was not the only unit totally decimated in this awesome, historical battle.

When the green troops ran, the Airborne held the line against the first wave of the German Winter offensive of 1944.

When I was a child, my Dad never really seemed to enjoy Christmas. We would often find him alone, in quite contemplation. Years later, when I casually asked him why it was he never seemed to enjoy Christmas, he told me that every single one of his friends was killed in the battle, but they did, indeed, succeed in stopping the German advance.

I want to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Sober Holiday Season. I know that may be difficult for some of us!
I wanted to bump this post up to the top because I was asked to do so on Christmas Eve, I wanted to do so.
The images posted are the front and back of a card that was given to the Third Army troops on Christmas Eve 1944. There is no Glory in war for those that have to fight, the horror of it will never be forgotten by those in battle! Our lugers represent relics of horror, obtained by our veterans that fought so hard to give us and others freedom. Everyone's freedom continues to be based on those willing to sacrifice so that we may enjoy that freedom.

God Bless All That Try And Do Right and Damn Those That Don't.

These extraordinary young men and women will rightfully be the next "greatest generation."
