The white is simply to highlight the marking or stamping. Collectors use markers / sticks that is removable and will not hurt the finish or gun.
It is totally acceptable to do this (must be of non-caustic material and removable). BTW, the white in the "safety" area Gesichert, is the only area that was orginally marked with white. They sell marking sticks at Brownells, I bought a white, gold and silver, for around 5 or 6 dollars apiece. Ed
