Hello Pat,
Thanks for helping me out. In Bender's larger book, there are some good photos on pages 297-302 that do seem to show metal ferruls through which the rod is inserted and this allows the swiveling action... I have also posted, below, the nice schematic diagram which shows the detailed design of an LP-08 cleaning rod. This is from page 227 on E. Bender's book, "Luger Hosters & Accessories From The 20th. Century". If any LF members would like a high-resolution copy of this drawing, I will post one in the Member's Gallery....
