So a 4-digit isn't necessarily military; it could be a low-range commercial in the 'p' block of 9,999???

Commercials can have suffixes also??? (My two commercials are both 5-digit with no suffixes).

Where have you been?

That is why they call them "alphabet" commercials!

Started after the Great War with "i" and went thru "z", IIRC; though many did find their way into police use. First DWM, then Mauser.

Rich, your commercials are early enough to have been numbered by the old commercial system, which was set aside in favor of the suffix block system of serializing, in 1921. Surviving examples with the 5-digit numbers peter out a little north of 96,000, but I don't know the significance ot those numbered above 92,000. After that, IIRC, military and commercial contracts were pulled from the same general production and configured as necessary. Look in Dwight's Commercial Data Base! http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=31901

Commercial S#'s are continuous... 1 to 92000, then switched to military style, 2000i to ????z.
