Judging by the four digit serial number, this could prossibly have been a pre-occupation gun and just never got the full treatment of the guns that were being assembled by the occupation folks. A lot of strange things went on during this time period with the manufacturing of firearms and the identifying marks that were being applied.
I have a five digit and a six digit HP and neither have the slot but do have the waffenampts. Perhaps they didn't slot the occupation guns, I've seen several wartime HPs.but none that were slotted except for the Canadian versions. It is an interesting anomaly, but perhaps someone will know the facts. |
