Just does not seem like something the Germans would do. They tried the concept in a number of efforts but tradition dies hard. They pretty much stuck with leather as long as it was available. Paper was a fallback material before and after canvas. But as far as I know in the Africa campaign the Germans had a lot more to worry about than the black on khaki problem. Supply in general. They did use a canvas belt pretty extensively there though. Another thought..I suspect it may have been difficult to change holster material type manufacture all of a sudden. Look at the trouble with winter clothing they had in Russia.
