The plum color is unusual. The plum color happens because of a combination of the metal alloy, the bluing chemistry and the temperature of the bluing bath.

I remarked on a plum extractor at my LGS yesterday, and was told if you go over 390ºF to say 400ºF, the plum happens...Supposedly very temp sensitive...
