Mark on Re-Barreled Swiss M1900 Luger
1 Attachment(s)
I recently acquired my first M1900 Swiss Luger.
This one shows evidence of rebuild including the reinforced S+F extractor and a replacement barrel. The only marks on the barrel are the serial number (in the correct position, stamped through the bluing) and an odd mark on top. Can anyone identify this mark? Does the mark trace back to a Swiss arsenal rebuilder? Thanks, Marc |
You're right about the "odd" mark, it'sometthing I've never seen before.
Are you really sure it's some sort of arsenal stamp? IMHO |
I'm honestly not sure what the mark is. The only other mark on the barrel is the serial number, and it is also roughly stamped like this mark.
The plum color tone of the barrel, and the appearance of the front (which is also blued) makes me think it was salt blued. It is properly staked, and the original front sight is mounted on the new barrel. The new barrel is properly and clearly staked into the receiver as well... |
is that a normal colour for barrel?
|
The plum color is unusual. The plum color happens because of a combination of the metal alloy, the bluing chemistry and the temperature of the bluing bath.

Normal Color for WF Luger Barrels.

Looks not like a Mark or stamp, more like scratches,Deep scratches.
|
Is there a corresponding mark on the bottom? If almost looks like a scratch made by a plyer's jaw.
|
The only thing on the bottom is the stamped serial number.
There is no corresponding mark like a pliers jaw... I'm beginning to wonder if something hard was dropped on it, but it is perfectly centered on the top of the barrel... I guess I'll just have to accept it as a handling mark... Stefan, thank you for confirming the bluing color corresponds to W+F production. Can you also confirm that the replacement parts were salt blued? The interior of the barrel appears blued as well. The reinforced W+F extractor also is evidence of refurbishment at W+F, but it did escape the "U" shaped rear sight filing... I discovered C.K.C. import markings (FGS Firearms?) underneath the right grip, which points to import after 1968 but before 2002 Marc |
