To me this set-up is a little obvious. We all KNOW that there is empty space under a stairway! There is either a basement stairway or empty storage space under those stairs. A thief with enough time on the premises would most likely figure this out.

Which is why two other things are needed.

(1) An alarm system, with audible alarm and central monitoring.

(2) Decoy guns. Put out some junkers.
