Edit: I know there is a lug on the front of the frame, silver soldered...But is it also dovetailed into the frame, or inletted, or located/fastened by some other method??? Silver solder/brazing doesn't seem like a very substantial means of anchoring that long handguard & lug...

The navy toggle on the second carbine is from a European maker, I did not make that one. But times have changed ;0)


Hook is attached by silver alloy and is the way the original carbines have been done, George Luger trusted silver , who am I to question that ;0)


I will start posting pictures of the process to help an excitement build up even more ;0)

I think we're missing out on a golden fund raising opportunity, a completion date pool. Participants send in $10.00 and their predicted completion date, the closest to the actual date wins the jack-pot, 50% of the monies collected. The balance would go to forum maintenance.
I would volunteer to handle the administration myself, but since I've reached the advanced age of 76, I think it should be in the hands of someone who has a reasonable expectation of being alive at the time of completion, some young fella like Sheepherder, who seems to have a lot of time on his hands.

Actually the forearm lug was attached by a screw prior to silver brazing. Sturgess & Gortz have a nice X-ray pic of the frame showing the screw on a carbine compared to a 'regular' frame (pic below).

I had noticed a ground-off screw in the pic of Eric's carbine also (other pic).

I hope this doesn't mean you'll have to start all over...
