Here's another heroine of mine. Sgt Lena Mae Basilone as she christens the destroyer named after her husband. She's not a great beauty (Although, I think so.) but her inner strength of character shines thtough. She and John only had 7 months together, but after he was killed on Iwo she never remarried. She died a few years ago, aged 85, I think.

Lord, those women were wonderful.
