The hole may be too large for an original pin to stay in place. A handy way to come up with impromptu small pins that are slightly oversize is to check an index of numbered drill bits for a shank that will fit better. The bits of the numbered format vary in diameter by steps of as little as .001". Proper heat treating may ultimately be in order, but this would be a good start.
