That little pin in the toggle...
When examining my newly acquired basket case, I saw that the pin that holds the "knee joint" pin in place was gone. Upon closer examination, I found that the large pin was some kind of home made contraption, so I made a new one.
Now I need to go through my junk to find a small pin to hold in place. Does anybody know the dimensions, diameter and length, so I know what to look for? It would also be good to know how to install it, I assume that it goes in far enough to lock the pin in place, but not far enough to hit the extension rail? |
Tom Heller will sell you a new pin for a few bucks.

I know, but I want to test fire this weekend... :)

Olle,
The hole may be too large for an original pin to stay in place. A handy way to come up with impromptu small pins that are slightly oversize is to check an index of numbered drill bits for a shank that will fit better. The bits of the numbered format vary in diameter by steps of as little as .001". Proper heat treating may ultimately be in order, but this would be a good start. |
The little pin (VonTiegelflusstahldraht, Federhart) that goes in this hole is 1.5mm in diameter (Durchmesser) (with -0.05mm tolerance); and 7.2mm long (lang) (with + or - 0.1mm tolerance).
Buy the Blueprint CD for many more interesting facts about your Lugers. (Yes, another shameless plug for my Blueprint CD! :D) |
Thanks, guys!
I actually got my number drill set out and gauged the hole last night. A 1.48mm bit slipped through and the next one wouldn't, so I figured that 1.5mm was the correct diameter. Seems like this was correct. I made a new pin from a broken 1.5mm drill bit, the hole was a bit wallered out but it "felt right" as I tapped the pin through it. It should stay in place just fine, or as they say here in TN: "It ain't goin' nowhere". :D And yes, those drawings are still on the wish list! |
on the subject of Luger pins
Is there a good source for the various pins or do you make them? I need a recoil lever pin and the little trigger bar plunger pin (and the little spring as well).
Thanks - Ian |
Tom "Lugerdoc" Heller ( http://forum.lugerforum.com/member.php?u=32 ) is your best bet when it comes to Luger parts.
