RC is the quality control stamp that is regularly found on the 08 pistols made by Erfurt. It identifies a part of the pistol that did not meet the requirements and was identified as such by checking with the gauges. When the anomaly did not produce unwanted precision or functional issues in the finished pistol, and the manager of the rifle factory was in agreement, the part got the RC stamp, besides the normal acceptance marking, the crown/J in this example.
The RC-marking also protected the control official against possible reclamations.
