Default Newbie Question

New to the forum, but have a question on a "numbers matching" Luger. Looking at a "42" Code Luger dated 1939. Serial number is xx77r. All external serial numbers are matching. However, the inside grip is stamped "77" with a capital "Y". Should the grips have the letter "r" as well, or is the "Y" just an inspector's stamp?
