1900 US Test Holster question

Test Eagle and Holster together went for close to $11k with buyer's premium last night's Greg Martin auction.

Readng in the few records contained in Fred Datigs.book the takedown tool was supplied with holster and I wondered wether they were unique or copies of the earlier design. What did the first one look like? Was the design patented. How did they remain the same for so long?? Anybody?? What were the rarest??
