I could be wrong on this, but I think the 6 o'clock hold is more for target shooters. Remember this was a war weapon. Usually used as a last resort and in a hurry. The lugers and in fact all the handguns I've shot are set as 'anlanint' has stated.

Yes....6 o'clock hold is for precision shooting. BUT,,,,the front sight nestled in the rear is the correct alignment and can be adjusted some for elevation.
