Sight picture of front and rear sights?

Where is the top of the front sight supposed to be in relationship to the notch in the back sight? Should the hold position be at 6:00 o'clock?

After almost 12 months of collecting, I have not seen anything on this most basic subject. What am I missing? Thanks for any advice.

I've always held the top of the front sight even with the two sides of the notch and pretty much hit what I aim at dead on out to 25 yards or so..

Robert,

Everyone has there own techniques, but this is the recommended sight and aiming picture for handguns.Refered to as the standard 6 O'Clock hold.

I could be wrong on this, but I think the 6 o'clock hold is more for target shooters. Remember this was a war weapon. Usually used as a last resort and in a hurry. The lugers and in fact all the handguns I've shot are set as 'anlanint' has stated.

Yes....6 o'clock hold is for precision shooting. BUT,,,,the front sight nestled in the rear is the correct alignment and can be adjusted some for elevation.

Guy's,

I'm aware that a 6'Oclock hold is for target shooting, because I assumed he was interested in shooting targets.

Robert,

If you're going on a "Drive-By" point center body mass slightly low. Most people tend to shoot high in a stress situation. Tunnel vision brought on by the adrenaline rush will focus you on your target, and you won't see the sights anyway. Same-Same in Combat.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, I am looking at target shooting, so the advice was great. I am not into drive byes , but you must ready for anything. Thanks again.
