An Italian helmet and a P38, not a P08 as the photo seller describes. North Africa, no doubt.

There is a reason personal cameras were usually verboten for Feldgrau!

The handwritten note in old German handwriting on the rear of the photo says:
"Must be fun!
(Assistent Comedian and Artist (circus performer)
Fred v. Budini)
Summer 1942"
Could be North Africa or South Russia, too.
Italian troops were in Russia, too. (Around Stalingrad and other places).
