Luger grips did not come with metal inlays and the German Reich didn't approve of individual soldiers/police adding decoration to the grips. The metal inlays that you have seen were done either by a bored GI adding some decoration to his captured war trophy or were added after the war to add some additional glamour to some tall tale about that trophy. Aftermarket grips were often decorated also. I remember seeing a photo of a metal Luftwaffe Eagle inletted into a Luger grip. I really liked that decoration but it wasn't an original thing.
