Tom, I will bet you a steak dinner for two that you can not site the section or paragraph of the Versailles Treaty that forbids submachine guns to the Reichswehr. Another urban legend is the supposed banning of long barreled pistols.

As I recall the only weapons specifically banned were certain large calibre siege artillery, aircraft, capital naval vessels, tanks and maybe gas filled projectiles. And of course about two hundred divisions.
