armorers cleaning rod
 

Hello,
since the Reichswehr was not allowed to have any Sub Machine Guns I assume this short (10 inch) armorers cleaning rod was for the Artillery Luger. It is nicely marked with Reichswehr acceptance stamp (eagle/SU58) and manufacturer (RK).
The rod is unit marked with MW/J.R.4.2.

What the Reichswehr was not allowed to have and what they didn't have are two completely different things.

They were quite good in hiding their material from the Allied Control Commision.
Nice cleaning rod, but I doubt it was solely used or intended for the LP08.

The Reichswehr was not forbidden to have submachine guns.

That reminds me,

The 1928 police manuals describe the MP18 and MG08, amongst others.

the Police was allowed to have SMG's, but not the Army.
Does anybody know what "SU" means?
Some say: "Simson Ulbrecht" others say SpandaU.

Tom, I will bet you a steak dinner for two that you can not site the section or paragraph of the Versailles Treaty that forbids submachine guns to the Reichswehr. Another urban legend is the supposed banning of long barreled pistols.

As I recall the only weapons specifically banned were certain large calibre siege artillery, aircraft, capital naval vessels, tanks and maybe gas filled projectiles. And of course about two hundred divisions.

George A & Farmer T, I believe that you'll find something in the section concerning the production of new weapons. As I recall, new pistols (except for replacement of one of the 100K allowed) had to have bores of less than 9mm and no longer than 98mms. TH PS: Most if not all of the long (up to 22 inches) barrelled 20 commerical that we see, had the long barrels installed here in the USA by either Stoeger or Pacaific Arms. They would also rebarrel to 9mm in various lengths with "Germany" marked barrels supplied seperately (thus the need for the country of origina marking) by DWM. TH
