Not to disagree, but that is not what I have been told. It is the law to have each one put on, there is nothing that says a import marking has to stay. Proposed rules state:

Currently, there are no minimum standards concerning size and depth of impression for markings on firearms. The regulations require that the identifying information, including the serial number, be legible, conspicuous, and placed on the firearm â??â??in a manner not susceptible of being readily obliterated, altered, or removed.â??â??

There is not a ruling or law that I can find at the BATF that states it can not be removed, only that the first importer MUST mark them.
