"I still wonder why the bottom broke. I was forcing the last round in the magazine, and I had the bottom resting on a cloth towel. Could the spring have been too long?"

Hi:

If you don't have one already, buy yourself a Luger loading tool and use it as instructed in your Parabellum instruction manual.

You shouldn't have to force the 8th round into the magazine, and should certainly not rest the base on a towel or anything else when loading the magazine.

The after market 7 round magazines are bull**** and should be avoided (my opinion only).
