30 Luger vs. 9 mm magazine - same thing?

Thank you all. Let me piggyback on this post if you will. I have read that Lugers are finicky about ammunition and magazines. I assume part of that is because the magazines can be fragile? So my question is whether it's a good idea, if you're going to shoot your Luger, to use an aftermarket magazine so as not to damage the original.
