30 Luger vs. 9 mm magazine - same thing?
I know I read this somewhere ... ok, I THINK I read this somewhere ... but couldn't find a post on this subject on this forum: the basic Luger magazine (original or aftermarket) can be used with either 30 Luger or 9 mm ammo, right? thanks

yes, they are interchangeable, a magazine could be for either the 7.65mm (aka 30 luger) or the 9mm, as the 7.65mm was simply enlarged to the dimension of the case (that is simplistic, but generally true).

Thank you all. Let me piggyback on this post if you will. I have read that Lugers are finicky about ammunition and magazines. I assume part of that is because the magazines can be fragile? So my question is whether it's a good idea, if you're going to shoot your Luger, to use an aftermarket magazine so as not to damage the original. If so, does anyone have any experience with this aftermarket magazine, which as you can see if half the price of a Mecgar? Thanks http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=318338

Stick by the mecgars, They're great magazines. I use them in my shooter Lugers, a 1937 S/42 in 9mm and a 1972-and-a-half Mauser Parabellum in .30 luger.
Plastic and wood bottoms are fragile. Not a lot will happen with aluminium or zamac magazine bottoms. |
