I said I wouldn't touch it, but when I decided to straw it, I decided I had to fix it.
Basically, I put it in a vice at an angle so when I compressed the vice it would bend it back. I put it between plywood to prevent any marking. I dod NOT use heat - it appears bendable enough without heat. Then I put it back in the frame and had to tweak it a bit with a brass hammer and a large punch so that it held the side plate tight. I don't recommend anyone try this at home - it would be easy to over bend and ruin it. but it can be done. -- Dan |
