Bent takedown lever

1 Attachment(s)
Mostly to satisfy my curiosity than anything, is a bent takedown lever at all common?

This Luger shoots fine and has all matching parts. I can't see why someone would intentionally bend this part. I've seen this on one other Luger, but you normally can't tell from photos since they aren't taken at this angle.

I'm not about to try to bend it back!

Regards,

I've got one like that...and that's how it's gonna stay!

An unknowledgeable person attempted to disassemble the gun with a pry tool because they didn't realize that the upper receiver had to be in the rear position to move the takedown lever...

This can be bent back, but I wouldn't do it cold, I would heat the lever part to soften the bent location while protecting the part that enters the frame from getting too hot... If the part is original to the gun and you are afraid of breaking it, send it to policeluger to fix it, or just buy a mismatched part to install for shooting...

Thank you John, heat must be very well controlled, used sparingly, remember the "button" is silver soldered on......you can reach me a policeluger@mchsi.com......thanks again

Howard,

Really, a takedown lever is not a single piece???

FIXED!

I said I wouldn't touch it, but when I decided to straw it, I decided I had to fix it.

Basically, I put it in a vice at an angle so when I compressed the vice it would bend it back. I put it between plywood to prevent any marking. I dod NOT use heat - it appears bendable enough without heat.

Then I put it back in the frame and had to tweak it a bit with a brass hammer and a large punch so that it held the side plate tight.

I don't recommend anyone try this at home - it would be easy to over bend and ruin it. but it can be done.

I just PM Dwight, my eye sight is poor, having surgery end of month and can not see key board but the buttom is welder or soldered to TD lever depending on period made....you will be suprized how easy it is to take a button off...sorry for poor reply...judt cant see

Rod WMG 02-13-2006 01:39 PM

policeluger, sure hope your eye problem gets better real soon!

Well if thats the case, Maybe that would explains some of the take down levers I have observed with only a hole where the round button is.

As I recall someone speculated that it was a modification done by personnel in the colder climates in order to make the take down easier operate.

IĆ¢??ll have to look for the thread, I know it was discussed here.

Here is the link where is was discussed before, but the pics are missing:
