Post 42 Luger

Im brand new to group Have a Family heirloom just passed on to 13 year son is Luger marked 1939 42 on toggle three digit serial number in the 300's and all parts that have marks match last two digits nazi eagel with wings on right side of barrel (two) Anyway to trace this to who it was originally issued? My son the history buff wants to know where its been. Its old enought to have been anywhere and everywhere very good shape with holster and spare clip Not for sale its a heirloom Thanks
